This month, the Congressional Budget Office released a plan for designing a health care public option—insurance coverage administered by the federal government to Americans who don’t qualify for Medicaid or Medicare. The option would compete with private insurance, and proponents say it could lower prices and improve the quality of care. President Joe Biden promised to create a public option as part of his campaign. But, asks cartoonist Darrin Bell for King Features Syndicate, will Biden actually deliver in his health care proposal?
