The biggest winners of the Eagles’ season so far are a dancing Gillie da Kid and his giant hat
His viral dances are so popular that the podcast host and rapper will lead the team out of the tunnel for the second Sunday in a row.
Dressed head-to-toe in Eagles gear — usually featuring a colossal Noggin Boss baseball hat — Nasir “Gillie da Kid” Fard kicked off each and every Eagles game this season with, let’s call it, a one-man line dance.
The infectious two-step, supremely choreographed to the beloved 1986 Cameo tune “Candy” is a hilarious burst of Eagles green joy, peppered with unapologetic Philly pride.
Gillie struts, throws it up, waves it away, and walks it off — all the while giving us his best stank face in front of the South Jersey home where he and Wallace “Wallo” Peeples record their insanely popular podcast, Million Dollaz Worth of Game. (Note to reader: stank faces are good faces when dancing)
On the days The Birds lost, there was grumbling, cussing, but no more dancing. But when the Eagles won — and they were the victors 14 games during the regular season this year — it was an all out party.
Gillie would return to the driveway joined by his homie JoJo — “he’s just JoJo” — dressed as a tiny bird and break out into the same dance. After the win, however, Too Short’s 2006 earworm, “Blow the Whistle” thumped in the background.
“I did the pregame song, ‘Candy’ because every game we play is that sweet,” Gillie said Thursday afternoon. “‘Blow the Whistle,’ that’s the perfect celebration song. It’s as simple as that.”
And here’s the best part: As Gillie and JoJo danced and laughed and danced some more, neighbor Jake “Broom Man” Swane appeared in the distance, eased across the street with a broom and joined the party with his own slightly off key two-step.
The Eagles swept their opponents again. Time to get down with the get down.
Gillie — or perhaps it’s his people — uploaded each pre and postgame performance during preseason and regular season this year. The clips of Gillie dancing appear on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok where they rack up tens — sometimes hundreds — of thousands of views.
On Week 18 — the Sunday The Birds went up against The New York Giants — Gillie posted a video teaching fans how to do his fancy footwork, “so that everybody doing his dance would do it right.” People are still posting videos following Gillie’s instructions.
At this rate, it won’t be long before Gillie’s dance joins the Electric Slide and Cha-Cha slide at weddings.
Gillie performed his pregame schtick in the Linc’s parking lot before he lead the Eagles out of the tunnel to win the wild card playoff game last Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. “We don’t [care] about cheese,” Gillie said in the social media video. “We put that on steak.”
JoJo and the Broom Man came and met the Eagles in the locker room, too. It was the Broom Man’s first Eagles game.
“I’m glad I was able to bless Jake and take him to his first Eagles game,” Gillie said in a video that he posted of the neighbors arriving home.
Gillie will be back at The LINC Sunday to lead the Birds on to the field again in this crucial playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams. Wallo will hype the crowd, the way Gillie hypes the crowd for him.
“Every time he’s winning, I‘m winning,” said Wallo — who goes by Wallo267 on the socials — “I love putting the good energy out there and this is so much great energy. The city is hype. We are all loving it.”
