Jon Batiste cancels Friday concert at Highmark Mann Center
The musician is navigating "some personal circumstances," a message on the arts center’s website read.
Jon Batiste’s show at the Highmark Mann this Friday has been canceled, the popular singer, songwriter, TV personality, and bandleader wrote in a note posted on the arts center’s website Tuesday.
As he navigates “some personal circumstances,” Batiste said he needed to cancel some upcoming concert dates, including the one at the Highmark Mann.
He is “finding new ways and opportunities to share live music with you,” and “truly can’t wait to come back and perform for you soon,” he wrote in the message.
Batiste — Louisiana-born and -raised, Juilliard-trained — has forged a multifaceted career, often blending classical and jazz. He has been nominated for 25 Grammy Awards, winning eight, and was bandleader and musical director of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert from 2015 to 2022.
Last summer, he performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra at its summer home in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. His new release, Black Mozart, is due out Friday.
Batiste is beloved for the sense of joy he brings to music-making and for being an “incandescent spirit,” as Inquirer music critic Dan DeLuca has written. At his show at the Met Philly in October, DeLuca wrote, Batiste ended by “tooting on his melodica, leading a Crescent City-style parade through the lobby onto Poplar Street, making it a mission to weave the multifarious strains of American music into one exuberant tapestry.”
