Why Philly diesel prices have soared, and probably won’t come down soon

High diesel costs take a big whack out of deli food maker Dietz & Watson and just about anyone else making deliveries. Experts don't expect the price to fall anytime soon.

Diesel prices have moved up more quickly than gasoline prices nationwide. A Conoco gas station on West Chester Pike in Havertown sold diesel on Thursday for $1.64 more per gallon than regular gasoline, a spread of 34%. On Jan. 1, the spread between gasoline and diesel prices in the Philadelphia area was 11.5%, according to AAA.
