Another Giant is coming to Philadelphia.

The supermarket chain’s location at the Andorra Shopping Center, its 10th in Philadelphia, is set to open June 19.

The nearly 50,000 square-foot store, formerly an Acme, will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The shopping center, which sits near Philadelphia’s northwestern border, has seen a number of renovations and new business openings in the past couple of years. New and soon-to-open tenants include fast-casual restaurant Honeygrow and food hall Wonder, as well as Kindercare childcare center.

It seems, based on a company statement, that Giant was looking to get the store operational ahead of upcoming events that are expected to draw visitors to the city, such as the FIFA World Cup games and the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Giant president John Ruane said in a statement that the opening of the Andorra location reflects the company’s “continued commitment to serving a Philadelphia that continues to grow and thrive — especially as the city prepares for a landmark summer ahead.”

The new supermarket at 701 Cathedral Rd. will employ over 160 full-time and part-time employees. The company has over 35,000 employees overall, and as of 2024, more than 1,000 of them worked in Philadelphia. It has expanded in the region in recent years, adding locations in South Philadelphia and Jenkintown.

Customers can expect to find produce, meat, seafood, flowers, a hot food bar, and sushi, as well as wine and beer at the Andorra location.

The company was founded in Carlisle, Cumberland County, in 1923 as a butcher shop.
