Redshirt freshman linebacker Josiah Trotter, who finished second in tackles on West Virginia’s football team this season, has announced his pledge to join Missouri out of the transfer portal.

Trotter, the son of former Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter and younger brother of current Eagle Jeremiah Trotter Jr., starred at St. Joseph’s Prep and signed with the Mountaineers out of high school as a three-star recruit. After suffering a season-ending injury during his freshman season at West Virginia, Josiah Trotter played in all 12 games this season, finishing with 92 tackles (four for losses), one interception, and two passes defended.

Trotter entered the portal on Dec. 4 and made visits to Washington and Missouri, according to ESPN, before ultimately deciding on the latter. He opted for the portal shortly after Neal Brown, who spent six years as West Virginia’s coach, was fired on Dec. 1 following the Mountaineers’ 6-6 season.

He joins a Missouri defense, led by first-year coordinator Corey Batoon, that ranked in the top 30 nationally in points (20.1 per game), passing yards (185.5), and total offense (319.3) this season. Trotter has three years of college eligibility remaining.
