Drew Allar commits to another year as Penn State’s QB; Beau Pribula enters the transfer portal
Pribula will look for a starting job elsewhere after spending much of his redshirt sophomore season as a gadget alternative to Allar.
Penn State starting quarterback Drew Allar said Monday that he will return for another season, while backup quarterback Beau Pribula entered the transfer portal and will not be with the Nittany Lions for their College Football Playoff game Saturday against SMU.
On Sunday night, Pribula, a redshirt sophomore, confirmed reports that he is entering the transfer portal after three years with the team.
With the timing of the playoffs and the portal, he said he’s “departing from the team,” leaving Penn State short of its gadget backup quarterback.
“Beau Pribula has been a phenomenal teammate. Big reason why we are where we are right now,” coach James Franklin said Monday. “Beau Pribula did not want to leave our program.”
Pribula played 185 snaps in 2024, rushing for 242 yards and accounting for nine touchdowns.
Although he was used primarily as a runner, his best performance as a passer came against Wisconsin when Allar was injured. Pribula showcased his arm and mobility by completing 11 of 13 passes for 98 yards and a touchdown.
