On the eve of its debut in the College Football Playoff, Penn State landed a former top in-state recruit to its roster for the 2025 season.

The 6-foot-5, 240-pound Philly native played sparingly with the Aggies, logging just 168 snaps over three years according to Pro Football Focus. The majority of those snaps (120) came in his freshman season in 2022. A former four-star recruit who was ranked as the second best player in the state and 38th nationally in the class of 2022, per 247Sports, White compiled 11 tackles (three for loss) and two sacks in 13 games with Texas A&M.

White committed to the Aggies originally under Jimbo Fisher, and stayed through the coaching change after Mike Elko took the job with Fisher’s departure near the end of the 2023 season. During that 2023 season, White suffered a season-ending injury after playing in five games.

But White couldn’t find consistent playing time in 2024 behind transfer Aggies edge rushers Nic Scourton, Shemar Stewart, who was in White’s recruiting class in 2022, and others. He appeared in just one game this season.

He joins a Nittany Lions defensive line room that’s led by Philly native and Northeast grad Deion Barnes and is headlined by Abdul Carter, one of the nation’s top edge rushers who could make the jump to the NFL when Penn State’s season concludes. In addition to Carter, edge rusher Dani Dennis-Sutton is also weighing an NFL decision, and seniors Amin Vanover and Smith Vilbert will be gone after this season.

White is the second player to join Penn State from the transfer portal. Former Southern Cal wide receiver Kyron Hudson announced his intention to transfer to Penn State on the same day quarterback Drew Allar decided to return to Happy Valley for his senior season in 2025.
