Running back Nicholas Singleton, a member of Penn State’s loaded 2022 recruiting class, got tabbed with one of the highest individual honors in high school football. Last week, Singleton was named the 2021 Maxwell Football Club Offensive Player of the Year.

Singleton is the first Nittany Lion to win the award since its inception in 2007. Other former players to take home the award include Heisman Trophy winners Derrick Henry, Bryce Young, and Trevor Lawrence.

The honor marks the second time Singleton has been recognized nationally for his play — right before the calendar flipped to 2022 he was tabbed as the Gatorade National Player of the Year.

Singleton’s monster campaign during his senior year at Governor Mifflin High School included 2,049 rushing yards and 41 touchdowns as his team went 10-1.

He averaged over 12 yards per carry, over 13 yards per touch, and found the end zone every 3.89 times he touched the ball.

Recruiting outlets ranked Singleton as a composite 4-star. However, some outlets, such as 247 sports and Sports Illustrated, rank him as the top running back recruit in the nation.

Singleton is an early enrollee at Penn State along with other top recruits from the 2022 class, including 5-star quarterback Drew Allar and fellow 4-star running back Kaytron Allen from IMG Academy.

Since the freshmen are early enrollees, fans may get the chance to see them play during the annual Blue-White spring game.

Singleton joins a relatively deep running back room that includes last season’s leading rusher Keyvone Lee, as well as Caziah Holmes and Devyn Ford. Noah Cain recently entered the transfer portal and went to LSU.
