A look at the matchups and more in the Big Ten’s release of the 2025 Penn State football schedule
Penn State will open its season against Nevada in Week 1, gets a rematch against Oregon in Week 5, and is likely to host Villanova in Week 3.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — With a little over a week until Penn State’s home College Football Playoff game against SMU (Dec. 21, noon), the Nittany Lions’ 2025 schedule has been unveiled.
At the Big Ten championship, it was announced that Penn State will get its rematch with Oregon on Sept. 27 at Beaver Stadium. The game likely will be the Lions’ fourth straight home contest to start the season. On Wednesday, the Big Ten revealed the full conference slate for all 14 teams.
Penn State will open its season against Nevada, then host Florida International in Week 2 before most likely inviting Villanova to Beaver Stadium in Week 3. Complete times, dates, locations, and broadcasts for the games have not been determined.
The only repeat opponents from the 2024 regular season are UCLA and Ohio State. The timing of the Penn State-Oregon contest could set up a “White Out” game against the Ducks if the game is televised in prime time.
The Nittany Lions will not play in consecutive weeks on the road; the Iowa and Ohio State games are separated by a bye week.
Penn State will make the trip to California for a second straight year, this time for a game against UCLA at the Rose Bowl. It also will mark the second straight season without a game against Michigan as part of the new scheduling model. Penn State will not face the Wolverines until 2026 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
