Penn State announces ‘whiteout’ game against Washington on Nov. 9
It will be the first time Washington visits Happy Valley in school history, having just joined the expanded, 18-team Big Ten.
Welcome to the Big Ten, Washington.
Penn State will play the Huskies in its 2024 “whiteout” game on Nov. 9, the team announced Monday along with its home-game themes for the season. It will be the first time Washington visits Happy Valley in school history, having just joined the expanded, 18-team Big Ten. A kickoff time has not been announced.
Penn State will hold its recently established “helmet stripe” game — a pseudo-whiteout — against Ohio State on Nov. 2 and its “stripe out” against UCLA on Oct. 5.
Penn State has traditionally held the whiteout in night games, but blowout wins over Minnesota and Iowa in the past two years led to questions whether the kickoff time or opponent mattered more. As the Big Ten has also been historically hesitant to schedule night games in November, A Nov. 9 whiteout will be the latest since Nov. 21, 2015, against Michigan, a 28-16 loss that kicked off at noon.
Penn State is 3-0 all time against Washington, dating back to 1921 and playing most recently in the Fiesta Bowl in 2017. Trace McSorley threw for 342 yards and two touchdowns, while Saquon Barkley rushed for 137 yards and a pair of scores to push the Nittany Lions toward a 35-28 win.
