Year 2 of the Stan Drayton era at Temple may still be a few months away, but the Owls’ head coach is already hard at work building the foundation for the future.

This week, Drayton and Co. received their first three commitments for the 2024 recruiting class. The trio of unranked recruits is highlighted by a pair of receivers from SEC country in Bryson Goodwin (Florida) and Tyler Stewart (Georgia).

Stewart, a 5-foot-9 speedster, racked up 449 yards and five touchdowns for Jones County High School, while Goodwin is a bigger receiver at 6-2, 180 pounds. Goodwin reeled in 27 balls for 513 yards and five scores last season as a junior to help Tampa’s Jesuit High School reach Florida’s 3M title game. It is worth noting that Stewart is officially listed as an athlete and not a receiver in various recruiting databases.

Quarterback Chris Dietrich of Sparta’s Pope John XXIII Regional High School in Sussex County committed as well. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound signal caller just completed a junior season in which he threw for 1,285 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Lions.

Temple finished just 3-9 in Drayton’s first season at the helm but the Owls did improve from a competitiveness standpoint over the second half of the season. Freshman quarterback E.J. Warner, Kurt’s son, was probably the biggest bright spot for Temple, throwing for over 3,000 yards and 18 touchdowns in 11 games.

Drayton and the Owls will look to take a bigger step forward with his first full recruiting class now on campus. Athlon Sports projects Temple to finish eighth out of 14 teams in the new-look American Athletic Conference next season.
