13-year-old stabbed in Feltonville classroom
Philadelphia Learning Academy-North was temporarily placed on lockdown when the stabbing was first reported, police said.
A 13-year-old boy was stabbed by a classmate at a North Philadelphia school on Wednesday morning, police said.
The teen, whom police did not identify, suffered superficial wounds when a 14-year-old boy in his class at Philadelphia Learning Academy-North stabbed him in the left arm, authorities said.
Police were called to the school on the 4200 block of North Front Street in Feltonville at 9:15 a.m. to respond to a report of a person with a weapon.
The two teens were together in the classroom when, for reasons that are not clear, the 14-year-old stabbed the 13-year-old in his left arm and hand with a pair of scissors, said Police Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore. The older boy then fled the classroom and was found by a school safety officer in a school bathroom, he said.
The alleged assailant, whom police also did not identify, was taken into custody and the weapon was recovered, police said.
The school was placed on lockdown for around 15 minutes, the school said in a statement.
