A third teen suspect in the Dilworth Park shooting has been arrested, while police still search for the shooter
Raheem Hylton, 16, was taken into custody in Frankford on Thursday night.
Hours after Philadelphia Police released the name of a third suspect they say was involved in the Dilworth Park shooting last week that left three injured, U.S. Marshals arrested the 16-year-old in Northeast Philadelphia, authorities said.
Raheem Hylton was taken into custody on the 1200 block of Foulkrod Street, in the Frankford area, at 8 p.m. Thursday, the U.S. Marshals said in a post on X. Acting on an anonymous tip, they found Hylton at an associate’s residence.
Hylton was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, conspiracy, and related crimes in connection with the triple shooting near the Rothman Orthopaedics Ice Rink on Dec. 13, police said. Police do not believe Hylton is the shooter.
Authorities are still searching for the shooter, whom they have not identified, police said.
The shooting started at the Christmas Village at City Hall, next to the rink, shortly after 4:30 p.m. as the plaza was filled with busy shoppers and skaters enjoying the holiday season.
A disagreement between teens at Freire Charter School at 20th and Chestnut Streets earlier in the day made its way to Dilworth Park and turned violent when one of the teens pulled out a gun and fired four or five shots, police said.
The gunfire hit a 14-year-old boy in the face, and he remained in critical condition after undergoing multiple surgeries. Two other boys, 14 and 15, were shot in the legs and were in stable condition.
The fight started when one 14-year-old victim tried to stick up for his younger brother, who was getting picked on, police said.
The shooting at Christmas Village in front of City Hall during the busy holiday season left residents worried. City leaders have since sought to reassure residents that the area is safe for shopping and visiting.
Hylton is the third teen arrested in connection with the shooting.
Police on Wednesday arrested a 14-year-old they say was involved in the shooting. Officers served search and arrest warrants that morning at the teen’s home, and he was charged with aggravated assault and related crimes.
Another 14-year-old boy was arrested on the day of the shooting and also faces charges of aggravated assault and related offenses in connection with the incident.
