A 34-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault for allegedly stabbing another man in the face during a verbal altercation Monday afternoon at Dilworth Park in Center City.

Azariah Ellerba, 34, of Philadelphia, was being held in lieu of 10% of $500,000 bail.

According to court records, Ellerba was arrested in July and charged with a similar count of aggravated assault and related offenses. In that case, his bail was set at 10% of $50,000 and he was subsequently ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation.

On Dec. 20, a judge ordered that his bail type be changed to “unsecured,” meaning he was released with a promise to appear for future court dates, according to court records.

About 4:05 p.m. Monday, police responded to an initial report from a security guard that a man had been stabbed at Dilworth Park.

The 25-year-old victim was transported by medics to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Ellerba, who also uses Corbin Ellerbe as an alias, according to police, was taken into custody without incident.

A spokesperson for the Defender Association of Philadelphia, which represents Ellerba in both cases, could not be reached for comment late Tuesday afternoon.
