Five people were killed and two children — ages 2 and 13 — were injured Monday night in a mass shooting in the Kingsessing section of Southwest Philadelphia. Police say the shooter apparently fired randomly.
The suspect, Kimbrady Carriker, 40, has been charged with five counts of first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, and illegal gun possession.
The deceased victims ranged in age from 15 to 59, according to police.
In June, data showed a slight decline in Philadelphia’s rate of gun violence. Still, 2023 follows three of the city’s most violent years in recent memory.
