A 23-year-old Mount Laurel woman has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of her mother Friday morning in their home at the Ramblewood Village Apartments.
According to a joint statement Saturday by Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina and Mount Laurel Township Police Chief Stephen Riedner, Marisa Rivera killed her mother, Denise DeNapoli, around 3:30 a.m. Friday and then fled their apartment.
The motive for the killing is under investigation, authorities said.
DeNapoli’s body was discovered at her apartment on the first block of Pine Cove by Mount Laurel police conducting a wellness check requested by her employer, according to the statement by Coffina and Riedner. They did not identify the employer.
Police found Rivera on Friday night at a hotel on Route 73 and took her into custody without incident, the statement said.
In addition to murder, Rivera is charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon. She was scheduled for an appearance Saturday in Superior Court in Mount Holly, during which the Prosecutor’s Office said it planned to request a detention hearing.
The case will be presented to a grand jury for possible indictment, authorities said.
