Man fatally shot at East Mount Airy bar and grill
Kenneth Singleton, 38, was shot multiple times inside the Uptown Cafe late Monday night, police said.

A 38-year-old man was fatally shot inside a bar and grill Monday night in the East Mount Airy section of Philadelphia, police said.
Kenneth Singleton, of the Lawndale section of Northeast Philadelphia, was at the Uptown Cafe on the 8100 block of Stenton Avenue shortly before 11:30 p.m. Monday when he was shot multiple times in the torso, police said.
Singleton was transported by police to Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:30 p.m.
The shooting happened next to a pool table inside the bar, said Chief Inspector Scott Small, and police found a broken pool cue along with seven spent shell casings.
“There may have been a fight that escalated into gunshots,” Small said.
The shooter remained at large, and a $20,000 reward was being offered for any information leading to an arrest and conviction in this homicide.
A vigil and balloon release was held Wednesday evening for Singleton, who was known as “Scooter,” at the Uptown Cafe.
State Sen. Sharif Street attended the vigil, and afterward said in a statement that he is friends with Singleton’s mother, Lisa Dixon.
“Unfortunately, I’ve gone from burying my friends to helping my friends bury their children,” Street said.
“We need to double down on the programs that reduce violence until we never need to hold vigils like this again,” he added.
Before the shooting happened, Street, who is running for Congress, was already scheduled to have a fundraiser Thursday at the Uptown Cafe, which is popular for such events.
Family members on Facebook said Singleton’s mother had lost another son to gun violence in 2022.
Brandon Dixon, 30, was gunned down at a gas station just a few blocks away from where Singleton was killed.
