Unidentified woman gunned down in North Philly, shot multiple times
Police found 21 spent shell casings at the scene, many within inches of the woman's body on the 2700 block of North Dover St., indicating she was shot at close range, police said.
An unidentified young woman was fatally shot Wednesday night on a residential block in North Philadelphia, police said.
Shortly after 7 p.m., police responded to several 911 calls about a shooting on the 2700 block of North Dover Street and found the woman, believed to be in her 20s, lying unresponsive on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds throughout her body, said Chief Inspector Scott Small.
The woman was transported to Temple University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 7:27 p.m.
Police found 21 spent shell casings at the scene, Small said. Many of the casings were within inches of her body, indicating that the shooter was at close range and possibly shooting over her.
The woman had a fanny pack with a gun still inside, so she had no time to defend herself, Small said.
No witnesses came forward or were located, but police were checking nearby residential security cameras, Small said.
