A 77-year-old North Philadelphia woman was stabbed by a son who then barricaded himself in her apartment for almost two hours Sunday morning, police said.

Officers got a call about a man armed with a knife assaulting a woman inside an apartment on the 1200 block of Fairmount Avenue around 9:30 a.m. When police arrived at the scene, the victim’s 54-year-old son had a knife and refused to leave the apartment, police said.

The standoff escalated to a barricade situation at 10:10 a.m. Medics were able to access the victim and take her to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where she was reported in stable condition Sunday afternoon with a stab wound to the shoulder, police said.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m., police took her son into custody and recovered the knife used to stab her, police said. He sustained “minor injuries,” according to police, who did not specify how or what type. He was taken to Pennsylvania Hospital for treatment, police said.

Central Detectives are investigating. No charges had been reported filed as of Sunday afternoon.
