Police announce arrest in shooting death of 16-year-old boy in East Germantown
Shyd Carr-Hanks, 19, was charged with murder in the late-night September slaying of William Honesty Jr. on the grounds of Martin Luther King High School.
Police on Thursday night announced an arrest in the September fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy on the grounds of Martin Luther King High School in the city’s East Germantown section.
Shyd Carr-Hanks, 19, of the 1200 block of East Price Street, which is several blocks from the high school, was taken into custody on Wednesday as a person of interest in the death of William Honesty Jr. Police said they also recovered a gun.
On Thursday, Carr-Hanks was charged with murder and related offenses. Police did not state a suspected motive.
Just before 11:40 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22, police were called to the 5900 block of Stenton Avenue and found the teen with three gunshot wounds to his chest. Honesty, who lived a few blocks away in West Oak Lane, was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.
Honesty was not a student at the high school, a School District of Philadelphia spokesperson said.
