PATERSON, N.J. - Jurors have acquitted a 37-year-old New Jersey nanny accused of having sex with a 12-year-old boy.
Jovanna Carranza wept Tuesday as she was found not guilty on multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Carranza served as a nanny for the Franklin Lakes family of a wealthy surgeon who did not testify at the trial. Jurors heard from the boy, his mother and Carranza.
The defense argued that the boy and the mother fabricated the allegations because they felt betrayed when Carranza left. The defense also claimed the mother was jealous of her children's dependence on Carranza.
Carranza now lives in Pennsylvania.
