Eagles’ Bryce Huff available for Sunday; Britain Covey placed on injured reserve
Covey will miss the rest of the regular season and at least two playoff games due to a neck injury.
After missing the last five games while recovering from left wrist surgery, Bryce Huff is available to play Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.
The Eagles activated the 26-year-old edge rusher from injured reserve on Saturday, 10 days after the team opened his 21-day practice window.
Last week, Huff said his entire left hand felt “a lot more functional” after he underwent wrist surgery, which will allow him to grab onto opposing blockers. Before suffering the wrist injury, Huff had a mostly quiet start to his Eagles career, with 2½ sacks and a forced fumble in 10 games.
Meanwhile, Britain Covey is headed to injured reserve for the second time this season, this time because of a neck injury. He is expected to be out for the rest of the regular season and would miss at least two playoff games.
The third-year receiver and punt return specialist has been dealing with the injury for the last four weeks. Before not practicing Friday, he had been listed as a full participant in each practice since Dec. 12 but had been inactive for the last three games.
Covey missed seven games earlier this season while on injured reserve because of a broken shoulder blade. He sustained the injury in Week 3 against the New Orleans Saints, when he attempted to run through a defender after a reception instead of stepping out of bounds.
The 5-foot-8, 173-pound receiver has taken 14% of the offensive snaps this season (50) through five games and has a career-high seven receptions for 34 yards. He was the Eagles’ first-string punt returner and averaged 7.7 yards per return. Cooper DeJean (10.3 yards per return) took his place as the punt returner while Covey was injured.
The Eagles also signed Ian Book to the active roster. Book, the depth quarterback the Eagles added to the practice squad on Thursday, figures to serve as the third-string quarterback on game day.

Tanner McKee, who typically holds the emergency role, will back up starter Kenny Pickett with Jalen Hurts (concussion) out. Pickett has been dealing with a rib injury sustained against the Washington Commanders, making the insurance behind him necessary.
To make room for Book on the active roster, the Eagles released edge rusher Chuck Harris. The team also elevated running back Tyrion-Davis Price and linebacker Dallas Gant from the practice squad to the game day roster.
Davis-Price takes the place of Will Shipley. Shipley, who sustained a concussion against the Commanders, was ruled out for Sunday’s game.
With Nakobe Dean (abdomen) listed as doubtful on Friday’s final injury report, the Eagles have additional linebacker insurance in Gant. Oren Burks, who has been the third-string linebacker this year, likely will start alongside Zack Baun if Dean can’t play.
