It didn’t take long for Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz to remember the last time Case Keenum started a game at Lincoln Financial Field.

Malcolm Jenkins, however, had no clue.

“That just happened to be our day,” Schwartz said. “That happened to be the city of Philadelphia’s day.”

The day in question was actually the night of Jan. 21, 2018, and Keenum brought the Vikings to the Linc for the NFC championship game. Keenum directed a solid opening drive to give the Vikings a 7-0 lead, but it was all downhill after that following Patrick Robinson’s scintillating pick-six. The Eagles won 38-7 as people in dog masks barked with glee.

Over the weekend, Keenum was named the Redskins starter for their opener Sept. 8 here in Philadelphia. He beat out Ohio State rookie Dwayne Haskins. Keenum spent last season going 6-10 for Denver following that career year in Minnesota.

He was the quarterback then?” said Jenkins, who didn’t remember Keenum. “Sorry.”

“Obviously that [NFC championship game] was a good memory for us, but I’m a Buckeye. I was hoping to see Haskins out there. But [Keenum] is a capable quarterback. It’s not necessarily surprising” to see him starting in Week 1.

Tackle Jordan Mailata was not present for the initial portion of Monday’s practice when players stretched and performed individual drills. The team declined to comment. ... Star defensive tackle Fletcher Cox (foot) also missed another practice. “The main thing is making sure that he’s healthy and in shape and focused. I know he’s focused and he’s driving with all the other things,” Schwartz said. “We’ll see where he gets.”
