Here are the jerseys the Eagles and Chiefs will wear in the Super Bowl

Both the Eagles and Chiefs will be wearing the same jersey combinations they faced off in two years ago in Arizona.

It looks like the Eagles will be donning midnight green when they take the field against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

This year, the NFC is the home team, so the Eagles got to pick which jersey they wanted to wear. The Birds waited until Tuesday evening to make it official, sharing pictures of Super Bowl LIX patches being sewn onto their jerseys on social media. The Chiefs posted shots of their jerseys earlier in the day Tuesday.

There’s a reason the Eagles find it easy being green. This season, the Birds went 9-2 while decked out in their midnight green jerseys and helmets, including a 3-0 run in the playoffs. They last lost Week 16 while wearing their white away jerseys against the Washington Commanders on Dec. 22.

When it comes to Super Bowls, midnight green hasn’t been quite as lucky. The Birds are 1-2 in the big game wearing their home colors, including their narrow loss to the Chiefs in 2023. However, the franchise’s only Super Bowl victory came while decked out in midnight green against Tom Brady (who will be calling the game this year for Fox) and the New England Patriots in 2018.

The Eagles also wore green during Super Bowl XV in 1981 against the then-Oakland Raiders, but it was their classic kelly green with a full allotment of sleeve stripes. The Birds also added a yellow piece of tape on the back of their helmets during the game, a tribute to American hostages being held in Iran at the time.

Can teams wear their throwback jerseys in the Super Bowl?

The short answer is no, you won’t see the Eagles wearing kelly green jerseys in the Super Bowl anytime soon. NFL teams are required to stick with their normal home and away colors during the Super Bowl for marketing purposes.

The only team to wear throwback jerseys during the Super Bowl were the Los Angeles Rams, who donned the classic blue and yellow look in 2022. But that season the Rams had designated their throwbacks as their official home jersey.

The San Francisco 49ers petitioned the league to allow them to wear their classic all-white retro threads in 2020, according to then-49ers defender and current Thursday Night Football analyst Richard Sherman. The league denied the request.
