Terry Bradshaw calls A.J. Brown selfish and more from Eagles-Commanders broadcast
The Eagles-Commanders game was eventful on and off the field.
The Eagles’ 10-game win streak ended on Sunday in a 36-33 loss to the Washington Commanders. After Jalen Hurts was ruled out with a concussion early in the first quarter, the Birds were forced to rely on Kenny Pickett under center.
Despite an offensive surge from Saquon Barkley during the first quarter, Washington put together a come-from-behind win to keep its playoff dreams alive. With another competitive game comes a lot of big moments on the broadcast. If you spent your Sunday traveling to Northwest Stadium in Landover, Md. for the game, here are some of the best and worst moments from the Eagles broadcast.
Jalen ‘Two Shoes’ Hurts appearance
Last week’s matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers, marked a return of Jalen “Two Shoes” Hurts. The quarterback wore two different colored Air Jordan 11 cleats — a midnight green cleat on his right foot and a lime, kelly green cleat on his left foot.
But the return of Jalen “Two Shoes” didn’t come without a cost. The NFL fined Hurts $5,628 for wearing a color that wasn’t one of the Eagles’ “constitutional team colors.” After news of the fine was released, Jordan Brand announced that it would cover the cost.
Despite the fine last week, Hurts decided to rock the different colored cleats again.
And that’s not all. The Eagles quarterback paid homage to his cleats from the week before ahead of the team’s matchup with the Commanders. Hurts arrived at Northwest Stadium in style — wearing a two-toned suit split down the middle. Hopefully this look won’t call for an additional fine.
The “Two Shoes” appearance was short-lived this time around after the quarterback left the game due to a concussion.
Terry Bradshaw calls A.J. Brown ‘selfish’
On Fox NFL Sunday, former NFL quarterback and analyst Terry Bradshaw had quite a lot to say about Eagles receiver A.J. Brown. After a Fox segment featuring a pregame interview with the wide receiver was aired, the host accused the star of being “selfish.”
The segment featuring Brown was aired before the Eagles-Commanders game. It showed Brown talking about the chase for perfection and his relationship with longtime friend Hurts after the controversy surrounding the two. The Brown-Hurts drama seemed to have died down in Philly, but Bradshaw didn’t seem to let it go — even after a dominant passing performance against the Steelers.
“I hate a selfish player,” Bradshaw said. “If Brown doesn’t get the football today, maybe he’ll go off on the sideline or something like that, who knows. I’m so upset by [his behavior], I’m pulling for Washington just because of that.”
Brown ended Sunday’s game with eight receptions for 97 yards and one touchdown.
Quarterback Barkley?
With Hurts out, the Birds tried another player at quarterback — and we’re not talking about Pickett.
Three minutes into the third quarter, the Eagles had Barkley take the snap in a Wildcat formation on third-and-3 from the 4-yard line. The designed play was stuffed after the running back elected not to pass the ball and was sacked for a 2-yard loss. After the play, the Birds settled for a field goal to boost their lead to 24-14.
This isn’t the first time Barkley has been under center, as he lined up in the wildcat formation during his time with the New York Giants.
Gardner-Johnson gives the bird to Washington fans
Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson was ejected from Sunday’s game in the third quarter after his second unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
Earlier in the game, Gardner-Johnson picked off a Jayden Daniels pass, his team-leading fourth interception of the season. After the veteran safety was ejected, he was escorted to the locker room by chief security officer Dom DiSandro. On his way up the tunnel, Gardner-Johnson flipped off Washington fans.
Not the bird Washington fans were expecting to see from their matchup with the Eagles.
