Eagles cornerback Darius Slay isn’t letting Sunday’s loss interfere with the team’s mindset as they prepare for the postseason.

After the Birds’ 36-33 loss to the Washington Commanders, the team had a “long, long bus ride” back to Philly where upon arrival Slay filmed the latest episode of the Big Play Slay podcast.

Slay said the team is keeping morale high and setting their sights on next week’s matchup as they host the Dallas Cowboys.

“When we got done with the game, we all came in with our heads held high,” Slay said. “We all know why we lost the game. Let’s address that [expletive] as a team because we feel as if nobody can [expletive] with us because we’re one of the best in the world. We got some of the best players in the world on this team.

“Nobody should be in here with their head down like we just [expletive] lost the Super Bowl. … We just know we are about business. We know we got a lot of football left. Got two games left in the regular season and a playoff run. So, Eagles fans don’t y’all be down. Don’t y’all worry. We’re gonna get it in. We’re going to make sure we put our best foot forward.”

The Birds loss to the Commanders ended their 10-game win streak and kept the division title out of reach for another week. Slay was looking forward to clinching the division before Christmas Eve.

“We’re feeling good still,” Slay said. “We still good. We’re 12-3, c’mon now. … Of course we didn’t get the win, man. So, it’s sad because you know, we wanted to win the division this week but we got a good chance of winning it next week as well. We got to just keep moving man.”

The Eagles can still clinch the NFC East with a win next week against Slay’s longtime friend Micah Parsons and the Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday (1 p.m., Fox29).

‘Smitty a dog’

Slay also talked about DeVonta Smith dropping the potential game-sealing catch on the Eagles’ last drive of the game. Backup quarterback Kenny Pickett found an open Smith on third-and-5 from Washington’s 22-yard line with the two-minute warning nearing. Pickett put the ball on Smith but the wideout dropped it.

“We not worried about that Smitty catch,” Slay said. “I put my money on Smitty any given day, 10 out of 10 times. He got open too easily. I know Smitty does a great job at running routes, a real great job. So, he always feels like he’s always open. But he was way too open.

I know what he felt like. He saw the end zone. Your eyes get big when you know you’re real open. You know you got nobody on your back or nothing so he said ‘yeah, man my eyes got a little big, I was about to go score that [expletive].’ But Smitty a dog. We’re not worried about that. 10 out of 10 times, I would throw it again.”

Giving Commanders their respect

Washington overcame five turnovers and a 27-14 fourth quarter deficit. Washington is now one step closer to its first playoff berth in four years after Sunday’s win. Even though the win was over an Eagles team without Jalen Hurts, Slay wanted to give them their respect.

“We have to give respect to that team [Washington],” Slay said. “Because that team played they [expletive] off, competing every down, getting after it, man. Jayden Daniels should run off with Rookie of the Year right now after that great performance. He made a lot of crucial plays.”

As of now, the Commanders and the Eagles are on a collision course to another meeting in the postseason. With Philadelphia as the No. 2 seed and Washington as the No. 7 seed, the pair would meet in Philadelphia for a Wild Card Round matchup.
