Eagles’ Devon Allen runs the fourth-fastest hurdles in the world this year

The wide receiver finished second in the 110-meter hurdles at a USA Track and Field event in New York. If Allen qualifies for worlds, he'll have a tough decision to make.

Devon Allen may be far down on the Eagles’ depth chart, but the wide receiver is gaining by leaps and bounds in track and field.

Allen, 28, ran the 110-meter hurdles Saturday at USA Track and Field’s NYC Grand Prix and finished in 13.04 seconds. He tied for the fourth-fastest time in the world this year with his second-place finish behind Daniel Roberts at Icahn Stadium in New York.

The former Oregon standout spent last season on the Eagles’ practice squad. He won the 110-meter hurdles in 13.46 seconds at the Penn Relays on April 29.

Allen plans to run at the USATF Outdoor Championships, which start July 6 in Eugene, Ore. The World Championships begin Aug. 18 in Budapest, Hungary, and if Allen qualifies, it will conflict with Eagles training camp, which begins July 26.

“Obviously, it’d be nice to compete at worlds and also it would be nice to be at training camp so I can make the 53-man roster,” Allen said in an interview with KPIC-TV in Roseburg, Ore. “So, obviously it’s going to be a little bit of a decision, but I’m not going to worry about that, like I said, until I make the world championship team. USA is a competitive meet. Just got to focus on doing that first.”
