Eagles-49ers: Start time, channel, how to watch and stream
Today's Eagles-49ers game is a highly anticipated rematch of last season's NFC Championship game, and the Birds are historic underdogs.
The Eagles (10-1) take on the San Francisco 49ers (8-3) today in South Philly in a highly anticipated rematch of last season’s NFC championship game.
It’s the first time this season the Birds have been underdogs at home, and since 2021 the Eagles are 0-5 as underdogs playing at the Linc. It’s also just the fifth time in the Super Bowl era a 10-1 team has been an underdog — and the first time for a home team — according to Fox Sports. The previous four all went on to lose, so if the Eagles manage an upset, it’ll be a historic win on a number of levels.
The Eagles could also become the first NFL team to clinch a playoff spot this season with a win and some help. Here are all the possible playoff scenarios.
This time around, the Eagles will face a healthy Brock Purdy, the last player picked in the 2022 draft who has emerged as one of the league’s best quarterbacks. Purdy suffered an arm injury that knocked him out of last season’s NFC Championship game against the Birds and was forced to reenter the game after then-backup Josh Johnson was also injured. As Inquirer columnist Marcus Hayes wryly noted, Purdy “was ... ineffective,” and the blowout loss didn’t sit too well with several 49ers players, who spent the offseason complaining.
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said his wife, Mandy, won’t be traveling to Philadelphia to attend the game because ”she didn’t like her fan experience” at the Linc during the NFC championship game. Running back Christian McCaffery falsely complained that the NFL didn’t allow teams to carry a third quarterback on the roster (they do), and kicker Robbie Gould questioned Jalen Hurts’ ability as a quarterback.
Wide receiver Deebo Samuel cut short a radio interview in July when asked about the Eagles after previously claiming the 49ers would’ve beaten the Birds by double digits if Purdy hadn’t been hurt. He also called Eagles cornerback James Bradburry “trash,” a comment he told reporters this week he didn’t regret.
The Eagles have been among the biggest TV draws for the NFL this season, part of the reason the league made the controversial decision to flex the Birds’ Week 15 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks to Monday Night Football on Dec. 18.
The Eagles have played in the three most-watched games this season, outside of Thanksgiving. The Birds’ overtime win against the Buffalo Bills on Nov. 26 drew over 30 million viewers on CBS, the first non-holiday regular season NFL game to exceed the 30 million mark since 2014, according to Sports Media Watch’s Jon Lewis. The Eagles’ Week 11 win against the Kansas City Chiefs on Nov. 20 pulled in the largest Monday Night Football audience since 1996.
Today’s game is also expected to draw big viewership numbers for Fox, especially since it’s broadcasting in just about every TV market in the country outside of Southern California, Ohio, and Tampa (where the game is blacked out because the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are playing at the same time on CBS).
Here’s everything you need to know to watch or stream the Eagles’ Sunday afternoon game against the 49ers on Fox.
What time and channel is the Eagles game today?
Today’s game between the Eagles and 49ers is scheduled to kick off at 4:25 p.m. Eastern on Fox.
Calling today’s game are two familiar voices for Eagles fans — Kevin Burkhardt (who grew up a Birds fan) and Greg Olsen. The duo are in their second season as Fox’s No. 1 crew, and it’s the third Eagles game they’ve called this season. They’re also slated to call the Birds’ Christmas game against the New York Giants, where the Eagles could be in a spot to clinch the top playoff seed in the NFC, if everything breaks their way.
Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi will be on the sidelines reporting at the Linc.
Eagles-49ers also will air on the radio on 94.1 WIP, where fans can listen to the familiar voices of Merrill Reese and former Eagles receiver Mike Quick. WIP host Howard Eskin will handle sideline reporting duties.
Rickie Ricardo, Oscar Budejen, and Bill Kulik will call Eagles-49ers in Spanish on La Mega 105.7 FM in Philadelphia.
