Former Eagles react to the return of the passing game vs. Steelers: ‘You can beat anybody if you play like that’
The Birds gave the people — and A.J. Brown — what they wanted: more passing. The result? A big win over Pittsburgh.
The Eagles just keep winning, and Sunday’s victory over the Steelers showed that the Birds aren’t just winning on the ground. They can also dominate in the air, as A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith each had over 100 yards and a touchdown Sunday in the 27-13 victory.
With the Steelers stacked up in position to contain Saquon Barkley, the Eagles leaned on Jalen Hurts and their star receivers to deliver. It was the first game since the season opener with double-digit targets for Brown, and the first game of the season in which Brown and Smith both had double-digit targets.
Former Eagles defensive lineman Chris Long praised the offensive versatility on his Green Light podcast.
“That’s a game you expect to win,” Long said. “There it is from the quarterback. Just because we don’t, doesn’t mean we can’t. If you play like that, I think I talked about us having the best roster in the league, you can beat anybody if you play like that.”

With the Lions’ loss to the Bills, the Eagles are even closer to potentially earning the top seed in the NFC, which would lock up home-field advantage in the playoffs and earn them a first-round bye — but they’ll still need some more help from Detroit. The Birds’ 10-game winning streak is the longest in the NFL this season, and the longest in Eagles history. Former Eagles linebacker Ike Reese gave coach Nick Sirianni props for the job he’s done with the Birds.
Current Eagles players were obviously fired up after the state championship win.
