The Eagles are signing defensive back Tyler Hall to a one-year contract, adding depth to a secondary that was stretched thin last season.

Hall, 25, is a four-year veteran who went undrafted out of Wyoming in 2020. He spent the last two seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders after spending one year each with the Los Angeles Rams and Atlanta Falcons. He has appeared in 31 games and has six career starts, three in each season with the Raiders.

At 5-foot-10, 190 pounds, Hall has been primarily utilized as a slot cornerback during his NFL career. Pro Football Focus charting had him lining up on the inside for nearly 80% of his defensive snaps in the last two years combined.

After releasing Avonte Maddox earlier this offseason, the Eagles will have to rework the slot cornerback position before training camp. Former Colt Isaiah Rodgers’ possible reinstatement from a year-long suspension and C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s versatility give the team some options, but there is no clear replacement for Maddox.

General manager Howie Roseman conceded last year’s team lacked depth behind Maddox, who missed all but four games last year with a torn pectoral, and said having more proven options would be a priority during a news conference at the NFL Scouting Combine last month. The Eagles had a revolving door of nickel cornerbacks behind Maddox last season, with James Bradberry, Bradley Roby, Eli Ricks, and Sydney Brown all spending meaningful time in the slot at various points of the season.

“I’ve got to do a better job of bringing in more guys to be able to play that position,” Roseman said. “I think that’s one area that kind of you felt like in August maybe we needed to add, so we tried some guys.”
