Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts ruled out vs. Commanders with a concussion
Hurts was knocked from the game after absorbing a hard hit after a scramble in the first quarter of Sunday's game vs. Washington.
Jalen Hurts will not return to Sunday’s Eagles-Commanders game because of a concussion.
Hurts left the game after appearing to hit his head on the ground after scrambling five minutes into the first quarter. On the play, Hurts was sandwiched by Washington’s Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvu after a 13-yard gain. Kenny Pickett replaced Hurts at quarterback.
Pickett, who was acquired via trade in the offseason, threw a touchdown pass to A.J. Brown a few plays after taking over for Hurts on the Eagles’ second drive of the game. He threw an interception on the following series. Sunday represents Pickett’s first consequential game action of the season.
Hurts briefly spent some time in the blue medical tent on the sideline after absorbing the hit and later ran to the locker room. He has not returned to the sideline.
In the previous matchup between the Eagles and Commanders on Nov. 14, Hurts was evaluated for a concussion but returned to the game.
Eagles running back Will Shipley, who mostly plays on special teams, was also ruled out with a concussion.
