Eagles wide receiver Mack Hollins says new injury isn’t serious
Hollins, who missed all of last season with a pair of groin injuries, sat out practice Monday with a different injury.
Eagles wide receiver Mack Hollins, who missed all of last season because of two groin injuries, sat out Monday’s training camp practice with what he and coach Doug Pederson described as a “lower body’’ injury.
Hollins said after practice that the new injury isn’t to his groin, and that he expects to return to practice in the next couple of days.
“It’s different than the groin, which I’m super-excited about,’’ Hollins said. “The groin feels really good. It’s just a little lower-body stuff. Definitely nothing like a groin, which is a positive. I don’t want a repeat of last year.’’
Hollins, who participated fully in the team’s first three training camp practices last week, apparently tweaked something while warming up before practice and immediately mentioned it to the team’s medical staff, which shut him down for the day.
After practice, Hollins spent a half-hour on the JUGS gun, catching about 300 balls. While he wouldn’t confirm it, it appeared from watching him move that the injury might be to his left hamstring.
NFL teams aren’t required to file injury reports until the start of the regular season, and coach Doug Pederson has chosen not to be as forthright about injuries as his mentor, Andy Reid, used to be.
“It’s mostly precautionary,’’ Hollins said of sitting out practice. “After not going for basically a year, our goal — theirs and mine — is I don’t want to go back down because of the warm weather.
“I want to go up and be able to maintain that. That’s what’s most important. I talked to the doctors, and they agreed.’’
The 6-foot-4, 221-pound Hollins was a fourth-round pick by the Eagles in the 2017 draft. He caught 16 passes as a rookie, averaging 14.1 yards per catch.
