If there’s one thing Philadelphians love to do, especially during the playoffs, it’s chant “E-A-G-L-E-S.” It’s everywhere. If you find your way into a large group of Eagles fans this week, you’ll probably end up chanting it too. It’s how it goes.

But sometimes, the chants go wrong.

Mayor Cherelle L. Parker held a press conference before Sunday’s game against the Rams, declaring a snow emergency in the city. In the playoffs, though, nothing’s more essential than getting to Lincoln Financial Field to cheer on the Birds, and Mayor Parker said as much, before leading the crowd that an Eagles cheer.

At least it was supposed to be an Eagles cheer. Unfortunately, she didn’t quite spell it correctly.

“We’ve got to do this, let me hear you all say: ‘E-L-G-S-E-S! Eagles!’” Parker exclaimed in the cold and snow. “Let’s go Birds!”

The video went viral on social media, with fans and Philadelphians scratching their heads at the spelling mistake. A local D.C. radio station even started selling T-shirts reading “Fly, Elgses, Fly” in Commanders colors ahead of Sunday’s NFC championship game.

But Parker brushed the spelling error off with a laugh. On Tuesday, she poked fun at her mistake in another press conference.

“We don’t promise perfection, I’m so happy I never have,” Parker said, inviting laughs from the crowd and her staff. “Especially after I couldn’t spell Eagles right.”

Mayor Parker, you’ve got until Sunday to get this down.
