Rams favored by four points over Bengals in early Super Bowl line

The early line on the Super Bowl favors the Los Angeles Rams by four points.

The line for the Super Bowl opened at Rams -3.5 before jumping to -4. That’s probably where it will stay until kickoff, according to one industry insider.

“The Rams’ experience and their defense puts the line at four,” said Craig Mucklow, vice president of trading for Caesars. He said any other movement likely would have occurred by now, “assuming there are no major health issues [among players] that would drastically impact the line.”

The over/under is 49-49.5, down slightly from 50. Another nuance is the prices of odds, to which is something the smart bettor pays attention.

Caesars opened its money line on Los Angeles — the Rams must win the game regardless of point spread — at -180. But bumped it to -185 after a six-figure play came in.

“We already took $180,000 on the the Rams’ money line, so we moved off that,” Mucklow said late Sunday. “After [Monday], I don’t think it will move, at least not because of money, anyway.”

However, it has moved. Caesars was at Rams -190 as of late Monday morning. It was still the best Rams price we found in a sampling of a half-dozen local sportsbooks. DraftKings also was at -190. BetMGM was -195.

Caesars also was the best place for a Cincinnati Bengals money-line price. They were at +165 while most others were at +160.

This & that

MLB: BetMGM opened a house at Nationals Park in Washington, the first sportsbook at a Major League Baseball stadium. The 4,000-square-foot spot has six betting windows, 17 kiosks, and is open year-round. All the ballpark needs now is for MLB to end its lockout.

NHL: The Devils entered Monday on a run of 14 consecutive games where a goal has been scored by either team in the first 10 minutes. DraftKings’ line on Monday morning was -185, which was right about where some of the other games were.

NFL: BetMGM’s preseason odds that the Rams would play the Bengals in the Super Bowl were 500-1. They took a $5 play on it that paid $2,500.

NFL: But that paled in comparison to the $20 parlay at FanDuel on the correct score of both conference championship games. That little beauty — Bengals to win 27-24, Rams to win 20-17 — paid $579,020.

And finally

When the Chiefs were up 21-3, a bettor at Caesars laid $200,000 on the KC money line. Would have paid $10,000. It paid nothing.
