Saquon Barkley filed for a pair of trademarks before unveiling his viral ‘2K SA’ shirt against the Giants
Barkley became the first Eagles player — and just the ninth in NFL history — to rush for 2,000 yards in a season. Now, he's looking to capitalize on that achievement.
After wearing a custom “2K SA” T-shirt on the sideline at Sunday’s game against the Giants, Saquon Barkley is now looking to trademark “2KSA” and “2K SA” and sell merchandise honoring his big season.
Barkley filed two trademark requests on Dec. 30 for the two phrases, honoring his 2,000-yard season, the ninth in NFL history. The trademark applications would give Barkley the exclusive right to sell posters, stickers, mugs, and other merchandise, as well as athletic apparel such as shirts, socks, jerseys, hoodies, hats, footwear and more. He would also get to use the phrases for personal appearances.
The trademark application process usually takes anywhere from 12 to 18 months, so you might have to wait a little bit longer for the chance to buy an official Barkley 2K SA T-shirt or other Barkley-inspired merchandise.

The shirt Barkley wore to the game features cartoon depictions of Barkley, being carried by Landon Dickerson and the rest of the offensive line. The back reads, “How ‘bout them boys up front.” The shirt celebrates their role in Barkley’s historic achievement — while also stealing a phrase from (and possibly taking a shot at) the Dallas Cowboys, the other team on the field when Barkley crossed the 2,000-yard mark.
“There was clearly a plan in place to get this trademark application filed the day after he hit the 2,000-yard mark,” said trademark lawyer Josh Gerben, who broke the news of the filing. “By getting the filing made, Saquon ensured that no squatters took the 2K SA phrase and provided his team with the abliity to police the marketplace and stop the sale of any unlicensed merchandise. It is rare to see an athlete this on top of things from a legal perspective. His off-the-field business acumen clearly rivals his on-field talent.”
Barkley set the Eagles franchise single-season record for rushing yards with his 2,005-yard season, finishing just 101 yards from breaking the NFL single-season record of 2,105 yards, set by Eric Dickerson in 1984. Barkley didn’t play in Week 18 against the Giants, resting alongside many of the starters for the playoffs.

In his first year with the Eagles, Barkley became just the ninth player in NFL history and the second active NFL running back to log 2,000 rushing yards in a single season, alongside Dickerson, Adrian Peterson, Jamal Lewis, Barry Sanders, Terrell Davis, Chris Johnson, O.J. Simpson, and Derrick Henry.
