Fun Super Bowl prop bets, no matter who wins or loses the game

What color Gatorade will be poured on the winning coach? Or will it be water? You'll have to wager on that one in New Jersey.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid reacts as players shower him on the sidelines at the conclusion of a 31-20 win against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla., on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020.

Sports betting apps are filled with hundreds of ways to bet on Super Bowl LVI. The number of options can be overwhelming and, after placing a spread and totals bet, could you blame someone if they wanted to end the NFL season with a wager on Gatorade color?

Before you spend time looking for “Eminem halftime” props at your favorite sportsbook —Will the Real Slim Shady Stand Up? “Yes -700/No +450″ — there are a few things you should know that might save you some money and time scrolling.

What novelty props are available in Pennsylvania and New Jersey?

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has not approved prop betting for the length of the national anthem or color of Gatorade poured on the winning coach.

However, betting on the national anthem and Gatorade color is permitted in New Jersey.

National anthem betting

Mickey Guyton is singing the national anthem. Three years ago, Gladys Knight’s rehearsal length was leaked on Twitter.

Recent history of Super Bowl national anthem length and odds:

  1. 2021: 2:17 (Over)

  2. 2020: 1:49 (Under)

  3. 2019: 2:01 (Over)

The coin toss

You don’t have to know anything about football to bet on the coin toss, it’s either heads or tails. But this basic novelty bet is a great way to explain vig. It’s the price a sportsbook charges to take a bet. You didn’t think they were doing this for free, did you? If you bet $100 on tails (-105), the total payout would be $195.23.

At DraftKings and BetMGM, heads and tails are both priced at -105 a side. At FanDuel, -104, BetRivers -103.

Gatorade color

Before the Lombardi Trophy gets hoisted, the first sign of a Super Bowl champ is a Gatorade shower.

As of Feb. 8 at DraftKings, clear/water +200 was the favorite followed by orange +300 and yellow/green +350. At BetMGM, orange is the favorite at +200 with blue at +300.

Blue Gatorade has drenched the winning coach two of the last three years.

Halftime, commercials, Puppy Bowl

No regulated sportsbook in Pennsylvania or New Jersey is offering action on what Super Bowl commercials will run, odds for what songs will be performed at halftime, or the Puppy Bowl.

Record year

A record 31.4 million Americans plan to put money on the Super Bowl. I’ll take the over. Some people were shy in that survey conducted by the American Gaming Association.

It’s estimated that bettors will wager $7.6 billion on the Super Bowl, a 78% increase from last year.

The increase comes from the recent legalization of online sports betting in New York. The state has absolutely shattered expectations and records in less than a month. From Jan 8-30, New York sports betting apps took $1.6 billion in bets.

Closing line

FanDuel recently asked two questions I never thought I would hear: Have I ever wanted to see Emmitt Smith compete with Joe Montana in beer pong? They followed it up with whether I wanted Anthony Anderson to play Terrell Owens in a game of cornhole?

Not really but for those who are into NFL Hall of Famers playing backyard games, it’s happening as a part of FanDuel’s “Watch & Win” event on hosted by Pat McAfee and Lisa Kerney on Sunday at 6 p.m. Fans 21+ can enter the free-to-play game to predict the winners of the challenges for a share of $200,000 in prizes. It’s open to the public (if you’re in L.A.) and live-streamed on Pat McAfee’s YouTube Channel.

Super Bowl betting splits

As of Tuesday night at BetMGM, 40% of the money was on the Rams -4.5, 64% of the money was on the Over (48.5), and 66% of the money was on the Bengals moneyline +165.
