‘Halloween Ends’

Jamie Lee Curtis has been making Halloween movies since Jimmy Carter was president. Although this sequel claims to be the last installment in the series — it’s the 13th — that promise could be both a treat and a trick. David Gordon Green, the man behind the 2018 Halloween and 2021′s Halloween Kills, directs the epic final confrontation between Laurie Strode and Michael Myers. (Rated R. Premieres Friday, Oct. 14, in theaters and on Peacock.)

‘TÁR’

Oscar buzz season has begun for Cate Blanchett, who stars in an adult drama as fictional, legendary, composer/conductor Lydia Tár. Lydia sits atop the classical music world until crises overwhelm her as she becomes a bit too big for her baton. Written and directed by Todd Field (Little Children, In the Bedroom).(Rated R. Premieres Friday, Oct. 14, in theaters.)

‘The Curse of Bridge Hollow’

If it’s a Halloween movie on Netflix, some haunted town needs saving. This year, a teenage girl’s spell brings Halloween decorations to life and it’s her science teacher dad, played by Marlon Wayans, to the rescue. With Priah Ferguson, Lauren Lapkus, Nia Vardalos, Rob Riggle, Kelly Rowland. Directed by Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2). (Rated TV-14. Premieres Friday, Oct. 14, on Netflix.)
