Shaina Humphries joins Fox 29 as weeknight anchor
The anchor comes from Iowa.
Fox 29 has added a new anchor to its weeknight newscasts with the inclusion of Shaina Humphries, a formerly Iowa-based journalist who starts her new gig at the station next month.
Humphries announced her role at Fox 29 on Instagram this week, writing in a post in the image sharing website that she will helm weekday evening news broadcasts at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. starting in mid-February. She is replacing Iain Page, who left the station amicably earlier this month.
“I have a lot to learn about this place, and I’m ready to hit the ground running. To my new viewer friends - I can’t wait to get to know you and I look forward to sharing your stories on this platform I’m so grateful for,” Humphries wrote. “Now... can anyone tell me where to find the best cheesesteaks?”
Humphries comes to Fox29 following a six-year run at Des Moines, Iowa’s KCCI, where she worked as a reporter and evening anchor. In 2017, she headed up the station’s “State of Addiction” project, and spent about a year focusing on the ways in which Iowa has been affected by the ongoing opioid epidemic in addition to handling her usual anchor duties.
"I’m thrilled to be joining a team of talented, creative people,” Humphries wrote online. “And I can’t wait to explore all of the Philadelphia, New Jersey and Delaware area.”
Despite having not yet started at the station, Humphries has already gotten the attention of Good Day Philadelphia’s Mike Jerrick, who told the Iowan to “hurry and get here already” in a message on Twitter.
“Strap in, Alex [Holley] and I are gonna give a crash course on what Philly is all about,” Jerrick wrote. “Welcome!”
