Uber will provide Philadelphians with up to 10,000 free or deeply discounted rides to coronavirus vaccination sites run by the Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium, the groups announced.

As part of a $250,000 donation from Uber, users of the ride share app can use the code 10MVBDC to receive up to $25 off rides to and from clinics run by the group. Philadelphians can get up to four free rides with the code, covering transportation to and from the sites for both doses.

Users can enter the code as a promotion under the “wallet” tab of the Uber app.

“We have found that access to transportation is not just a barrier to receiving the coronavirus vaccine, but in receiving quality health care,” said Kamau Stanford, COO of the Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium. “We are thankful for Uber for providing free rides to help us in stopping the spread and morbidity associated with COVID-19.”

The consortium is hosting a music-inspired vaccine clinic, called Philly Vax Jawn, on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Dell Music Center, 2400 Strawberry Mansion Drive. Music will be sponsored by radio stations WDAS 105.3 and Power99. All Philadelphians ages 16 and older are eligible, and no appointments are necessary.

Dr. Ala Stanford, founder of the consortium, urged members of the community, especially Black and brown residents, to attend and take advantage of the free Uber ride to the event.

“If you are breathing and you haven’t been vaccinated, you need to come out,” Stanford said in a Facebook video.

The consortium will also be at Temple University’s Liacouras Center on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday of next week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., providing free vaccinations with no appointment necessary. Check the the group’s Facebook page for updated information on the weekly location and schedule.
