Penn’s kidney transplant program has set a world record for most ‘paired donations’ in a year

One Penn patient received a kidney as part of chain of donations started by a man who donated with no particular recipient in mind.

Jason Kingsborough, left, wanted to donate a kidney to his brother-in-law, Rich Green, right. But he wasn't a good genetic match for Green, 52, of Media. Instead, Green and Kingsborough entered a "paired donation," where they were connected with another kidney donor who was a better match for Green -- and had a loved one compatible with Kingsborough. Their paired donation was the 100th of its kind at Penn Medicine in just 12 months.
