The organizers of one of Philadelphia’s oldest and most widely loved events are offering an early glimpse into this year’s spectacle — a celebration of the future through the timeless beauty of flowers.

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s theme for its 2025 Philadelphia Flower Show is “Gardens of Tomorrow.” From renderings of its entrance garden, titled “Futura Florentia,” to other exhibits that were being shared at a Franklin Institute news briefing on Tuesday, the promise of the upcoming annual celebration of all things green and growing was showing flowers as a symbol for a more hopeful, vital future.

“At the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, our purpose is using horticulture to foster a healthier, more sustainable, more beautiful future,” said Matt Rader, PHS president. “The 2025 Philadelphia Flower Show, ‘Gardens of Tomorrow’ showcases the power of plants, sustainability, and innovation.”

As the society’s chief fundraiser now in its 196th year, the Flower Show supports PHS’ programs that bring trees, gardens, and greening projects to neighborhoods and schools around the region. It is also a significant cultural and tourism event for the city. This year’s Flower Show is being held at the Convention Center from March 1 to 9.

“The 2025 Philadelphia Flower Show is a celebration of innovation, resilience, and creativity in gardening,” said Seth Pearsoll, vice president and creative director of the Flower Show. “This year’s theme, by design, invokes a sense of optimism, highlighting how planting something is a small gesture that promotes a brighter future.”

As in years past, the 2025 Flower Show will combine new exhibitors displaying their artistic creations, along with familiar favorites. There will also be exhibits by horticulturalists of the future, like students from W.B. Saul High School, Bucks County Community College’s Floral Design program, Temple University, and others.

In addition to many beautiful things to see, the Flower Show will offer lots of things to do like the Know to Grow lecture series, the Kids Cocoon play space, the Bloom Bar to buy floral crowns, Butterflies Live!, Artisan Row, and more. New this year will be Blossom and Breathe, an event focusing on beauty, well-being, and natural healing.

For those who love to dance the night away, on Saturday, March 8, Flowers After Dark will return. The theme this year is “Out of This World!” Organizers are describing it as “an unforgettable night of cosmic celebration that blends the nostalgia of ’80s and ’90s pop culture with futuristic space-age aesthetics.”

And as always, there will be plenty of shopping opportunities.
