Man whose son was shot in 2016 fatally shot in Atlantic City
The victim, Demond Tally, 45, had just left the home of his friend, Atlantic City Council President Marty Small Sr., according to the news site BreakingAC.
A 45-year-old man whose son was killed outside a mall two years ago was fatally shot in Atlantic City early Sunday.
Demond Tally had just left the home of Atlantic City Councilman Marty Small Sr. when shots rang out around 5:15 a.m., according to the news site Breaking AC, which quoted Small. Sources said Small and his family were home at the time. The men were longtime friends who lived on the same block.
The Atlantic City Police Department reported that Tally was found shot in the area of Presbyterian Avenue. He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center-City Division Trauma Unit, where he was pronounced dead.
Tally was a youth football coach and the father of 21-year-old Demond Cottman, a standout football player at Atlantic City High School, who was shot dead in a Hamilton Mall parking lot in 2016 in a crime that remains unsolved.
The investigation was continuing and no other details were released. The shooting came hours after the annual “Marty Small Ball,” organized by Small and held this year at Harrah’s. Reached by telephone Monday afternoon, Small said he would defer to the wishes of the family of the victim and refrain from commenting at this time.
Tally was mourned on Facebook as “always upbeat and positive ... a staple in the community.”
