Mom and her 2-year-old daughter were shot in Olney, police say
The 30-year-old woman and her daughter were shot around 8 p.m. on the 100 block of East Albanus Street. At least 36 shots were fired.
A 2-year-old girl and her 30-year-old mother were wounded during an eruption of gunfire Wednesday night in the city’s Olney section, police said.
Around 8 p.m., police responded to a reported shooting on the 100 block of East Albanus Street and found the woman lying unresponsive outside her home with several gunshot wounds, including to her head, said Chief Inspector Scott Small. She was transported by police to Einstein Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition.
Before police arrived, a private vehicle rushed from the scene to Einstein carrying the girl, who had gunshot wounds to both her legs, possibly from a single bullet, Small said. The girl was reported in stable condition.
Police found 32 spent shell casings nearby near the intersection of Albanus and Front Streets, as well as four spent shell casings on the porch where the mother and her daughter were struck, Small said. The home is nearly a half-block away from the intersection.
It was unknown if the woman was an intended target or who fired the four shots from the porch, Small said.
Several people who were still at the scene were found to be carrying guns and had permits to carry them, Small said. Those people were detained for questioning.
