The remains of an unidentified woman were found Thursday morning inside a suitcase dumped on a Kensington street, police said.

Officials said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, near Kensington and Allegheny Avenues, shortly before 10 a.m. Officials said she appeared to be white, but could specify little else. They did not have an approximate age or an immediate cause of death. Police called the death suspicious.

On Thursday morning, as police surveyed the scene, the large black suitcase sat on the sidewalk near the exit of the Allegheny SEPTA station on the Market-Frankford Line.
