Supreme Court draft ruling prompts protests in Philadelphia and debate about abortion access nationwide
The final opinion — which could change — is expected in June or July. For now, abortion remains legal in the United States.

Protesters gather at City Hall in Philadelphia on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, after a leaked Supreme Court opinion draft showed the court was poised to overturn Roe v. Wade.
The U.S. Supreme Court appears poised to strike down Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision that protects a woman’s right to an abortion, according to a draft majority opinion obtained by Politico and confirmed by Chief Justice John Roberts.
The final opinion is expected in June or July, and could change if Supreme Court justices change their votes. For now, abortion remains legal in the United States.
New Jersey and Delaware have passed laws that would keep abortion legal if Roe v. Wade is overturned. Pennsylvania’s law bans abortions after about 24 weeks, or about six months, of pregnancy.
Demonstrators gathered in Philadelphia on Tuesday evening to protest the potential decision.
