“I think we’re trying the patience of the jury,” said U.S. District Judge Gerald A. McHugh, who urged lawyers to pick up the pace.

Philadelphia City Councilmember Kenyatta Johnson and his wife, Dawn Chavous, arrive at federal court in Philadelphia last week.
The federal bribery trial of Philadelphia City Councilmember Kenyatta Johnson and his wife, Dawn Chavous, resumed Thursday, the sixth day of testimony.
On Wednesday, the defense got its shot to cross-examine the case’s lead FBI agent, who estimated that Chavous was paid $67,000 for just 40 hours of work, a guess that would put her pay rate at nearly $1,675 an hour.
Prosecutors claim that Johnson accepted bribes to aid a financially struggling nonprofit founded by legendary music producer Kenny Gamble. Johnson and Chavous have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
