2022 Oscar nominations: Will Smith, Questlove lead group of Philly-area Academy Award nominees


Smith has been nominated twice before for best actor — in 2007 for "The Pursuit of Happyness" and in 2002 for "Ali" — but has yet to win an Oscar.

  • Philadelphia native Will Smith was nominated for best actor for his role as tennis father Richard Williams in King Richard. Smith has been nominated twice before for best actor — in 2007 for The Pursuit of Happyness and in 2002 for Ali — but has yet to win an Oscar.

  • Malvern-native Adam McKay was nominated for best original screenplay for the Netflix dark comedy Don’t Look Up, based on a story co-written by David Sirota, who grew up in Montgomery County. The film also received a nomination for best picture.

  • Questlove’s Summer of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised), the musician’s directing debut, was nominated for best documentary feature.

  • The Academy Awards will air on Sunday, March 27, on ABC. The show will have a host for the first time since 2018, but we still don’t know who it’ll be.
