An employee of the Maple Shade School District was killed in an accident Tuesday afternoon outside of Maple Shade High School in Burlington County, the district’s superintendent said.

“One of our beloved staff members has tragically passed away in an accident in our bus garage. The Maple Shade police are still on scene investigating this devastating accident,” Superintendent Beth Norcia in a statement posted on the district’s website.

TV news helicopter video showed police gathered in a lot outside of the high school, which is located at 180 Frederick Ave., where school buses are parked. TV news reports said a person was struck by a vehicle, possibly a bus.

The employee was not identified and no other information about the person was released.

Norcia said classes were canceled Wednesday.

“The Burlington County Crisis Response Team and counselors will be available for staff and students the rest of the week to support students and staff in their time of need,” Norcia said.

“We ask our students and staff to look after one another as we deal with the loss of our coworker and friend,” Norcia said.
