Boy dies after sneaking into Delaware County swimming pool overnight, police say
The boy had accessed a locked pool area, police said.
A boy’s body was found in a pool after he and group of others appeared to have sneaked into a Delaware County swimming club after it closed, according to police.
The boy, whose name has not been released but who may be 13 or 14 years old, was believed to be with three others at the Folcroft Swim Club when one of them contacted police shortly before 1 a.m., said Detective Dan White of the Folcroft Police Department.
“They entered a locked pool area,” he said. “We’re not sure of the reason they were there.”
The club said the boy was found unresponsive in the deep end of the pool, which was closed Wednesday “in light of the situation," which was called a “tragic accident.”
“We ask that everyone keep all families involved in their thoughts and prayers at this time,” the private club wrote.
No others were at the scene when police arrived and the incident is believed to be an accidental drowning, though it is still under investigation, said Folcroft Police Chief William Bair.
Bair told NBC10 that the boys were apparently “pool hopping" and that the lights were out when they were swimming.
